East High School was founded in 1861. Our motto, “For the Service of Humanity,” embraces the school’s focus on developing lifelong learners who will be productive citizens. The East High School Alumni Association was the idea of May Goodrell, who graduated from East in 1877 and was also its principal from 1901 to 1918. The Des Moines East High School Alumni Association is one of the oldest and largest high school alumni associations in the country. The East High School Alumni Foundation was started in 1986 and each year awards more than $150,000 in scholarships to deserving EHS students. These are all things to be very proud of and support!
