What a night!
The Meadows Conference Center at Prairie Meadows in Altoona was the place to be on Friday, June 9th!
The evening began with lots of social time, a delicious buffet lineup and amazing background music by the EHS Jazz band, led by Samuel Anderson, Director of Bands. Tracey Foley, Class of 1987 & Celebration Chair, started the program and introduced Kevin Bradford, Class of 2005, who sang the National Anthem along with his son. Then former Cheerleaders & Steppers led the crowd in the School & Fight songs played by the Jazz Band.
We were fortunate to have Ross Peterson & Andy “Danger” Von Ahnen, both 1996 EHS graduates and local radio personalities, as emcees again this year. They filled the evening with fun and laughter!
The program continued with videos from Jill Versteeg, EHS Principal, sharing the State-of-the-School, Dr. Steve Taylor giving a recap of the school improvements made possible by the recent successful capital campaign, and interviews with the four Hall of Fame Inductees: J. Elder II (Class of 1987), Robert “Bob” Johnson (Class of 1966), Dr. Steve Taylor (Class of 1966) and Brent Isenberger (Honorary Scarlet).
Jeff White, Class of 1987 and EHS Alumni Foundation President, shared the news of the Foundation’s 90 student scholarship awards totaling $220,000 and other news about the Foundation’s goals and efforts.
Ross and Andy then got the crowd involved with the Roll Call of Classes. This is always a favorite and the alumni did not fail to get involved! We honored the oldest alum in attendance, Geraldine Daniels from the Class of 1944! The class with most attendees was the class of 1968. They won the $100 prize and it will go towards their class scholarship fund. Congratulations!
Connie Boesen, Class of 1969 and EHS Alumni Foundation member, wrapped up the program by awarding Julie Christiansen West, Class of 1976 and Marketing Chair for the EHS Alumni Association, the coveted Service of Humanity Award.
It was a great evening and we hope everyone that attended had a wonderful time. The new venue was great. We’re making plans to hold the 2024 Scarlet Celebration at the Meadows Conference Center again. Several dates are being discussed – watch for the official announcement.
