The Inductees
Paul Rogness
Paul is an Honorary EHS Scarlet and the EHS Golf Classic founder & organizer. The Golf Classic was started by Paul in 1994 and the total amount raised in this very popular annual event has, so far, raised nearly $700,000 to fund special projects for current East High school students. Paul is just the 2nd Hall of Fame Inductee who is not an East High graduate.
Peter W. Rounds
Peter is a graduate of the EHS Class of 1959. He spent 56 years as a public servant for the city of Des Moines. He served in a wide range of law enforcement capacities until his retirement in 1996. Even after his retirement, he continued to work for two years as a Contract Guard with the US Marshall Service, transporting federal prisoners to neighboring states. In 1998, Peter began as an investigator for the Polk County Attorney’s office and continued in that role for 14 years, retiring at the age of 71.
Gary H. Sheldon
Gary graduated from East in 1962. East High School was just the beginning of his journey in education in the Des Moines Public Schools. After graduating from Drake University in 1965, he spent the next 37 years in multiple roles in Elementary schools, including principal at six different central Iowa schools. After his retirement, Gary began supervising student teachers for Iowa State University for 18 years.
