Celebrating the Success of the 2024 EHS All-Alumni Scarlet Celebration
The East High School All-Alumni Scarlet Celebration on June 8th, 2024, was a phenomenal success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of our alumni and guests. Here are some highlights from this memorable evening:
- Food and Fellowship: Attendees relished the opportunity to reconnect with classmates and meet new friends over delicious food.
- Musical Moments: The EHS Jazz Band, under Samuel Anderson’s leadership, delivered an impressive performance during the social hour and guided us through the national anthem, EHS School Song, and Fight Song.
- Cheer and Spirit: The spirited performances by past and present EHS Cheerleaders and Steppers added to the evening’s excitement.
- Dynamic Hosts: Julie West (Class of 1976) started the evening’s festivities, handing over to our lively emcees, Andy “Danger” Von Ahnen and Ross Peterson (Class of 1996).
- Inspiring Messages: Dr. Ian Roberts, Superintendent of Des Moines School District, outlined the district’s future goals, while Principal Jill Versteeg provided a comprehensive State of the School update.
- Foundation Highlights: We were proud to share the EHS Alumni Foundation’s partnership with Avenue Scholars and celebrate the success of our 2024 Alumni Hall of Fame inductees: Anesa Buchanan, David Maxwell, Kris Young, Marcia Wanamaker, and Mike Zelenovich.
- Fundraising Success: The EHS Golf Classic raised $43,000, supporting various school needs.
- Scholarship Awards: The EHS Alumni Foundation awarded $226,000 in scholarships to 68 deserving students, bolstered by our nearly $4 million endowment.
- New Initiatives: Nancy Elliott unveiled a new Cheerleading Scholarship, expanding opportunities for our students.
- Class Roll Call: The event concluded with the beloved Roll Call of Classes, honoring our oldest attendee, Geraldine Daniels from the Class of 1944.
- Acknowledgments: Heartfelt thanks to the EHS students and staff for their contributions.
